Heat Pump Installation in Cambridge

One machine that cools the house in August and heats it through most of the winter, with a provincial rebate a gas-heated home in this city can actually reach. That is what heat pump installation in Cambridge buys you. We size it standing in the house, put the rebate on its own line of the written quote, and hold the number. Galt, Preston and Hespeler have been our patch for over 10 years.

A Heat Pump That Holds Through a Cambridge Winter

A heat pump earns its money at the bottom of the range, because what it puts out falls away as the air gets colder. Minus 18 is the cold this city has to carry, a degree kinder than the towns either side of us. That degree is worth money to you, because you are paying for capacity and this city asks for less of it.

Most houses here keep the gas furnace and let it cover the handful of worst nights. We choose the temperature where one hands over to the other after we have seen your house and your bills, because the factory default was set for somebody else.

Adding a heat pump to a forced-air system you already have needs no building permit in Cambridge, which is a fee and a wait you never pay for. The electrical side is a different desk and we carry it. New work goes to the Electrical Safety Authority, and a service that has to grow brings GrandBridge Energy into it.

The Rebate Is Open Here, and It Is Not Open Everywhere

Who sends your gas bill decides whether the provincial rebate opens to you, and that answer is not the same on every street around here. Cambridge sits on the good side of it, and we confirm what you qualify for before you commit.

If gas heats your home now

Cambridge buys its natural gas from Enbridge, and an active Enbridge account is what the Home Renovation Savings Program asks of a gas-heated house. So the door is open here, which is not true of every home in the region. Two things close it again. The written approval has to land before we start, and a house already running a heat pump is out.

If oil, propane, wood or electricity heats it now

You sit in the higher tier, and the money scales with the capacity we fit. The approval still comes first. On a rental the owner applies and the tenant cannot. Either way the application is ours to file.

What a Cambridge Winter Asks of a Heat Pump

Here is what the machine does across a season here, so nothing it gets up to in January worries you.

Where the thermostat sits Who is doing the heating
Above freezing, and that is most of the heating season here The heat pump does it all and your furnace never fires. This is where the running cost drops.
Down around minus 10 Output falls with the outdoor temperature, so it runs longer and gentler. You will not feel the difference indoors.
Minus 18, the coldest this city asks for A cold climate model is still pulling heat out of that air. Your furnace only joins in if we set it to, which is a choice rather than a limit.
The coil ices up outside It defrosts itself and goes back to heating. Nothing has gone wrong and nobody needs to phone us.
A week of hard cold Hours pile up on the electric side, so we set the handover point around what you pay for gas and hydro.

What the Heat Pump Install Covers

Every heat pump quote we write here carries the list below, and the paperwork on it is ours.

  • A room-by-room measure and a capacity check at minus 18, so you buy the system this house needs and not a size up.
  • The spot behind the house confirmed at the visit, because the zoning by-law here allows a heat pump there and not beside it, so your old air conditioner pad may not transfer.
  • The rebate application, from the photographs and nameplates to the sizing form, filed by us and approved before a box is ordered.
  • A level pad, the refrigerant lines sealed where they enter the wall, and the brickwork made good.
  • The circuit and disconnect filed with the Electrical Safety Authority, and your panel read before we promise you a date.
  • Heating and cooling both run in front of you on the day, with the handover temperature set for your house.
  • The warranty registered in your name, and the same van back on the driveway when you call us.

Two exclusions catch people out. A house already running a heat pump cannot claim, and neither can a new build until somebody has lived in it six months. Tell us early and we will price it straight.

Three Ways a Heat Pump Goes Into a Cambridge Home

An outdoor heat pump unit installed behind a Cambridge home

Dual fuel with the furnace you have

The heat pump does the everyday work and the furnace waits for the cold snap. Most Cambridge homes land here, because the gas is already at the house and the furnace is already paid for.

All-electric cold climate, ducted

Heat pump first, with electric backup behind it and no gas bill at all. Homes on oil, propane, wood or electricity reach the higher rebate tier, which is where the numbers get interesting.

Ductless heads

One head per room, and a small hole cored through the wall for each set of refrigerant lines. It is the only route into a house that never had ductwork, and it cools in summer too.

Your heating fuel narrows this down before anything else does. The heat pump installation page has the cold climate range we carry, and ductless mini split installation is for the house with nowhere to put a duct.

Send us a recent heating bill and a photo of the space behind the house. We size the system, work out what the rebate pays you, and put it in writing before anything is ordered.

What a Cambridge Heat Pump Quote Is Made Of

Two things move this number more than the box does: the electrical work, and the size the house actually asks for. We look at both on the site visit. The financing options page sets out ways to spread the rest.

The system you choose What we are actually installing What pushes the price
Dual fuel with the furnace you have A cold climate outdoor unit behind the house, a coil above the furnace, and one control deciding which of them runs. The capacity you need at minus 18, and whether your panel has a spare breaker for the circuit.
All-electric, ducted A bigger heat pump, backup heat behind it, and your ductwork checked against the airflow it has to move. The size of the backup, and whether the service has to grow before any of it can be switched on.
Ductless heads An outdoor unit and a head in every room that needs one, with refrigerant lines cored through the wall for each. How many heads you want, and the distance from each one back to the outdoor unit.

A rebate lowers what you pay without lowering what the job costs. We tell you which tier you land in before you commit.

Who Sizes It, and Who Fits It

The sizing, the handover setting and the rebate paperwork all belong with whoever fits the machine. Split them between two companies and the gaps land on you.

Your panel read before the price

GrandBridge Energy delivers the power here and the City owns most of it. We look at what your service can carry early, so an upgrade is never a late surprise.

Sina was prompt, answered all of our questions and did a thorough job. Would highly recommend.

From the First Call to the Handover Setting

You get the rebate answer at step two, long before the invoice.

1

You tell us what you heat with now

Call us, or use the form: your heating fuel, a recent bill, and a photo of the space behind the house.

2

We size it and price the rebate in

Your technician measures the house, checks the spot behind it will take the unit, and looks at what your panel can carry.

3

You get the numbers before you commit

One written quote, with the capacity, the controls, the electrical and the rebate each on their own line.

4

We fit it and hand it over

Pad, refrigerant lines, wiring and controls. Then heating and cooling both run in front of you, and we set the handover temperature before we go.
