Water Heater Repair That Starts With a Straight Answer

A four-year-old tank with a failed thermocouple and a fourteen-year-old tank weeping at the seam are different problems, and they deserve different advice. So every water heater repair begins with a proper diagnosis, and we test the controls, the gas valve or the elements, and the venting before we quote anything.

Then you hear what failed, what the repair will cost, and whether it is worth making. Our Kitchener heating and cooling team has been doing this for over 10 years.

Sometimes the honest answer is that your money is better spent on a new tank, and you get that answer either way.

Do You Own Your Hot Water Tank, or Rent It?

Many households in this region rent their hot water tank, and it is easy to forget which arrangement you have until the hot water stops. The quick way to tell is your gas or utility bill: a monthly water heater rental charge means the tank is rented.

If you own it

We are glad to help. We repair gas and electric tanks from the major manufacturers, and we book your visit with a technician who carries the common parts. Get a quote or call (519) 884-8888.

If you rent it

Rental agreements usually ask you to have the provider's own technicians do the work, so the fastest route back to hot water is the number printed on your bill. Give your rental provider a call and they will arrange the visit.

We install and service hot water tanks that homeowners own.

What Our Water Heater Repair Service Covers

A hot water tank usually gives you a clue before it gives up, so tell us what yours is doing and we bring the parts your repair is likely to need.

No hot water at all

The pilot, thermocouple or element has stopped working.

The hot water runs out too fast

Sediment has built up and is stealing space inside the tank.

The water only gets lukewarm

A thermostat or the dip tube is usually behind it.

The pilot will not stay lit

The thermocouple is worn and needs replacing.

Water is pooling at the base

We trace it to a fitting, a valve or the tank itself.

The hot water runs rusty

The anode rod is spent or the tank lining is failing.

The tank rumbles or pops

Sediment is baking onto the burner surface.

The relief valve drips

Pressure or temperature inside the tank is climbing too high.

An element or thermostat has failed

We test both before replacing either one.

You can smell gas

Leave the house first and call the gas utility from outside.

What Every Repair Visit Includes

A full diagnosis before any quote

We check the gas valve, the elements, the thermostats and the venting, not just the obvious fault.

The finding in plain language

You hear what failed on your hot water tank and why, in words that make sense.

Common parts on the truck

Thermocouples, elements, thermostats and relief valves ride with our technicians, so a water heater repair is often finished the same day.

A repair or replace call we stand behind

When your hot water tank has reached the end, we say so and talk you through what comes next. Our repairs are covered by a warranty.

Book a Water Heater Repair Visit

Is the hot water gone right now, or is there a puddle under the tank? Tell us what it is doing and we will get your repair booked. Call early in the day and we can often be there the same day, and you will hear the real window when we book the visit.

Came to our home to check our water heater which stopped working the day before… He arrived on site, and changed the control panel as a sensor had stopped working. And voila hot water again.

Repair It, or Replace It?

Age tells you most of what you need to know. A storage tank typically lasts 10 to 15 years, so a tank in its first half-decade with a failed thermocouple or element is almost always worth repairing, and that is the most common water heater repair we are called out for.

A tank weeping at the bottom seam is another matter, because once the steel has rusted through, a new tank is the only lasting fix. We say so on the first visit rather than sell you a repair that buys a few months, and the same technician can size and install the replacement tank.

If the tank is finished rather than faulty, you can choose another storage tank or a tankless water heater, and we will tell you which suits your house. Because the tank and the furnace share a basement and a gas line, our furnace repair team is usually right there too.

What Drives the Price of a Water Heater Repair

We price the work after the diagnosis, never before it, so you know the number before a tool comes out. A few things move that number more than anything else on a water heater repair.

If replacement turns out to be the better path, ask about our financing options when you call.

Factor Why it moves the price
Which part failed A thermocouple is a small job, and a gas valve is a larger one.
Gas or electric Electric tanks need element and thermostat testing, and gas tanks need combustion and venting checks.
Age of the tank Parts for older models take longer to source, and some are no longer made.
Manufacturer warranty If your tank is still covered, you may pay for labour only.
Access in the basement A tank wedged in behind the furnace takes longer to work on.
Venting condition A venting problem found during the diagnosis adds work beyond the failed part itself.

How a Repair Visit Works

You learn what failed and the price of fixing it while your technician is still beside the tank, and nothing gets repaired until you agree to it.

1

Tell us what the tank is doing

Describe the symptom in your own words, by phone or through the form, and that shapes what your technician brings on the truck.

2

We find the fault on site

Your technician confirms what is actually in your basement, tests the controls and finds the fault before offering an opinion on it.

3

You hear the finding and the cost

Before any work starts, you know what failed, what the water heater repair costs, and whether we think it is worth doing.

4

We repair, test and check the venting

Hot water comes back, we run the tank to confirm the fix, and we check the venting and combustion before we pack up.

Where we repair water heaters

Most hot water tanks here sit in the basement beside the furnace, so the trucks that handle our furnace calls carry water heater parts as well. We repair tanks throughout Waterloo Region and reach Wellington, Perth and Oxford counties too, so tell us your town when you call and we will confirm the visit.
