Sizing a Heat Pump for a Wellesley Winter
A heat pump's output falls away as the air outside cools, so the capacity that matters is the one it still holds on the coldest night. Around this township that is minus 19. The village has no row of its own in the Building Code's climate table, and every listed place around it reads the same figure.
That figure is the lowest the winter reaches, not the average. Most of the season sits a long way above it, and in those milder hours a heat pump is cheaper to run than the fuel you burn today. So we take the size from the cold night and choose the machine for the mild months.
One rule decides whether the rebate money reaches you. The program has to approve the job in writing before the work starts, and a job that begins first earns nothing. We file the application on the day you approve the quote.
The Rebate Gap Between a Propane House and a Gas House
The program pays according to the fuel you heat with today, and that answer is worth thousands of dollars. The two cards below set out the bands and the conditions attached to them.
Your current fuel sets the band
A house heating with propane, oil, wood or electricity reaches up to $7,500 on a cold climate air source heat pump. A house heating with natural gas reaches up to $2,000. Nothing else about the two houses has to differ. The township's chief administrator has said that not many areas here are covered by natural gas, which is why the larger amount usually applies on these roads.
Then the house itself has to qualify
Three conditions catch people out, and we check all three against your address. The house cannot have a heat pump on it already, because the program pays nothing to replace one. A new build has to have been lived in for six months. The property also has to be connected to the grid through a local electric utility, so where a house makes its own power we confirm eligibility rather than promise you anything.
Everything a Wellesley Heat Pump Quote Covers
The same eight steps go into every heat pump quote we write, in the village or on a farm.
- We measure your rooms and check that the machine still holds the house.
- We confirm your current fuel, because that answer alone sets your rebate band.
- We check the three conditions that can disqualify a house: an existing heat pump, six months of occupancy, and the grid connection.
- We file the application and hold the order until the written approval arrives.
- We complete the tank removal form with you on an oil or propane house.
- We read your electrical service on the first visit, since an upgrade means waiting for the utility.
- We set a level base clear of the roof drip line, then run and seal the lines through the wall.
- We set up the control that hands the house from one machine to the other, and fix that switchover point with you.
If the house runs on oil or propane, please tell us on your first call. The old tank and the form that goes with it belong in the quote, not in a phone call afterwards.
Three Ways a Heat Pump Fits a Wellesley Property
Dual fuel, keeping the furnace you have
The furnace stays for the deepest part of the winter and the heat pump carries the rest of it. On a propane house the tank then supplies only the coldest stretch.
All-electric cold climate, on the existing ducts
You have no tank in the yard and no gas bill. The heat pump takes the whole winter, with electric heat as the backup, and a house already on electricity is in the top rebate band.
Ductless heads, one room at a time
A single outdoor unit feeds an indoor head in whichever rooms you want heated. If nobody ever ducted the upstairs, this is how a heat pump reaches those rooms at all.
All three are air source heat pumps, which here is a practical choice rather than a preference: the rural lots run on private wells and their own wastewater beds, and a ground loop has to miss both. Our heat pump installation page lists the cold climate range, and ductless mini split installation suits a house with no ducts at all.
What Sets the Price of a Heat Pump
The equipment is not what decides this number. Your electrical panel, the spot the outdoor unit can occupy and what your ducts already move matter more. So we price after a visit, never over the phone. Our financing options page shows how to spread whatever the rebate does not cover.
| The setup | What we install | What affects your price |
|---|---|---|
| Dual fuel, with the furnace staying | A cold climate unit outside, a matched coil indoors, one control picking which machine runs. | What the house asks for on the coldest night, the grade of equipment, and what your panel can take. |
| All-electric, on the ducts you have | The heat pump carries the winter, with electric heat behind it as backup. | The size of that backup, how your service holds up under it, and what the ducts can carry. |
| Ductless heads | One outdoor unit, a head per room that matters, a neat cored hole for each line. | The number of heads, and how far each one sits from the unit outside. |
The rebate is money you keep, not a discount on our invoice. We need the written approval before we order, so the application goes in as soon as you accept the quote.
Who Installs Your Heat Pump
One quote has to carry three things at once: a rebate application that gets approved, an honest assessment of your electrical service, and equipment that holds the house. The company you choose decides all three.
Over 10 years, and the owner on the driveway
Sina owns the company and is still the technician on most installations, so the person who sizes your system is the person who commissions it.
Authorized Lennox Dealer
Lennox provides the training and the parts behind this equipment.
Five HomeStars Best of Award wins
The homeowners who vote for that award are the ones whose basements we have worked in.
The rural details nobody mentions until later
We raise all of it at the quote: the old tank and the form you sign for it, the lane the truck has to come up, and the well and septic bed we have to keep clear of.
Sina fixed up a gas line for a new stove for me. He does incredible work, is extremely knowledgable and offers you an educational experience. He has great conversations and is extremely intelligent about his trade. Could not have been happier, it was an 11/10 experience Positive Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value

How We Get From Your Call to a Working Heat Pump
We have the written approval before anyone orders equipment, and we never order on the assumption that it will come.
Tell us what heats the house now
Use the form or call us, with your fuel, your tank if you have one, and the months you would like the heat pump to carry the house.
We size the system and read your panel
We measure the rooms, check what your electrical service can carry, agree where the outdoor unit goes, and work out which rebate band the house falls into.
The price arrives on paper, and the application goes in
Your quote names the equipment, what it puts out on the coldest night, the controls, the electrical work and your rebate, each on its own line.
We install it, then we prove both modes
We set the base, run and seal the lines, and connect the power. Then we watch it heat, watch it cool, agree the switchover temperature and file the warranty in your name.
The corners of this township we cover
A village bungalow and a farmhouse at the end of a long lane need different things from the same heat pump, and usually the panel is the reason. Tell us the road and the fuel when you call.
